New River Gorge National Park in Fayetteville, WV is an absolutely beautiful treasure. Voted one of the top 10 “Coolest Towns in America”, it is an adventurers paradise. Mountain climbing, white water rafting, hiking and more are waiting for you at New River Gorge. One of the biggest attractions is the New River Gorge bridge. Completed in 1977, the bridge was the answer to the over 40 minute drive winding down the gorge and back up to get to the other side. Today it’s one the most photographed places in West Virginia.

The family and I have been making an annual trip to Fayetteville, WV for the past two years now and every year there is something new to do. We love playing in the river, rock hopping, hiking and of course photography. If you love being outdoors you’ll love New River Gorge National Park.

We’ve now been to the area in the summer and fall. Each season has it’s own benefits. Even though we were there in July and the humidity was off the charts, it wasn’t bad when out hiking or playing in the river. While hiking the dense forest provide plenty of protection form the unforgiving summer sun, while the river offers a great way to jump in and get cooled off. However, fall is hard to beat! WV offers the picturesque autumn colors you see in magazines.

Fayetteville isn’t the only cool place along the river. If your like us we love to jump in the truck and explore when we travel. A quick trip along the river will take you to Hawks Nest State Park and many old coal mine towns.
